New York insurance regulator
The state office that licenses insurers and agents and handles consumer complaints. It can look into problems like claim delays or unfair treatment, but it does not act as your lawyer.

This is the least coverage the law requires. It often isn’t enough to pay for a serious accident, and anything above your limits can come out of your own pocket.

Death benefits must be at least $50,000 per person and $100,000 per crash. UM coverage must match the 25/50 bodily injury minimums.

These state-established programs cover homes that private insurers won’t. They’re meant as a last resort: coverage is often more limited and can cost more, so shop the private market and ask an agent first. Eligibility rules vary.
